Hathern Local
History Society was formed in 1980 for the purpose of recording
and preserving the history of the village. The Society has gathered
a collection of more than 500 photographs depicting the village
and its people over the last 120 years. We have many accounts
of life in the village, gained from interviews with life-long
Hathern residents. The Society has published three books about
the village's history, containing stories and photographs, with
total sales of more than 2500.
Two of the
books are out of print, but the latest: "Further Pictures
of Old Hathern" can be obtained from Hathern Post Office,
price £3. Two audio-visual presentations have been produced,
using projected images, graphics and recorded commentry from local
people:
"Domesday+900",
in line with the national initiative to record life in Britain
during 1986.
"This
is Hathern", showing life in Hathern over the the last century,
comparing the village in bygone times to the present day.
These productions
have been shown many times in the village, and have always attracted
large audiences.
The Society's
current project is a book of memories of life in Hathern during
WW2, which will contain accounts from people resident in the village
during that period. We would be interested to hear from anyone
who could help us with this.
